ATMOSPHERE FOR FULFILLING BAD PROPHECY When Joshua conquered - TopicsExpress

ATMOSPHERE FOR FULFILLING BAD PROPHECY When Joshua conquered Jericho in Joshua 6, he concluded the assignment with a curse in verse 26, “Cursed be the man before the LORD who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates. Several generations later as we got to I Kings 16:34, the scripture says, “In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation with Abiram his firstborn, and with his youngest son Segub he set up its gates, according to the word of the LORD, which He had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun.” We are not given so much information about the identity of Hiel. But it may be important for us to consider the phrase, “In his days.” Whose days are these? It was the days of AHAB. Ahab was one of the wicked kings of Israel. Verses 30-31 say, “Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him. And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him.” Ahab created the atmosphere for Hiel to fulfil a bad prophecy. I have come to discover in the scriptures that bad prophecies are often fulfilled at bad times. There is usually an environment, an atmosphere that allows men to lose their head and before they know it, they have submitted themselves as candidates for fulfilment of bad prophecy. One is this Hiel; the evil in his days activated his action of foolishness. Another is Abiathar. Many people may never have known that his father household was cursed and I tell you he was enjoying the priesthood until this day when Adonijah took up a rebellion and wanted to hijack the throne from Solomon. He stuck his neck into it and I Kings 2:27 says, “So Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest to the LORD, that he might FULFILL THE WORD OF THE LORD which He spoke concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh.” Another person is Judas. ANYBODY could have fulfilled the prophecy of betraying Jesus but he also stuck his head into it when a crisis arose and men just hated Jesus and wanted to kill him. He offered himself to greed and covetousness. He fulfilled a bad prophecy because of his antecedents. Beloved, there are always atmospheres for fulfilling bad prophecy. Watch when you find yourself in an environment where evil goes unpunished and you feel do whatever you please. Watch when a wicked leader arises and you happen to be one of his supporters and encourager. Watch when a rebellion arises – a crises in your church, family, community, school or office and you are invited to be part of the crises or when you stick your chest out as the ring leader. Watch when there is a bad habit in your life (like stealing, anger, greed, immorality etc) and you seem not to be conquering them. Watch when you are becoming prone to betraying people or becoming a tool in the hands of others to set up people who have not offended you. I have one counsel for you: anytime you find yourself in a condition or environment like this, IT IS TIME TO LOCK YOURSELF UP AND PRAY, “Lord, let me not be a subject of BAD PROPHECY!”
