ATTEMPTS TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION AND THE VOTING SYSTEM IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO March 27, 2014 at 2:42pm PRESSE RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lansing, Michigan - March 27, 2014: The political party UNIC (National Unity and Integrity of Congo ) led by Dr. George Alula is urging the Congolese and international opinion to remain calm during the preparation of the 2016 elections that we all wishes to be free, fair, transparent and equitable for all. UNIC is committed to compliance with the Constitution of the DRC which require the direct universal suffrage as mean to elect the: Provincial legislators assembly National legislators assembly President of the Republic Considering the absence of any argument in favor of a constitutional amendment, as indicated by the Doctor of Constitutional Law André Mbata (Professor at the University of Kinshasa); Considering the wise position of the U.S. government inviting the DRC to avoid any change in the constitution or form of voting, UNIC rejects today any form of constitutional reform in the DRC. UNIC denounces all maneuvers designed to delay the mandatory processes in the organization of upcoming elections which intend to justify the extension of the presidential term indefinitely.
