ATTENTION PARENTS IN EAST VALLEY AREA PLEASE TAKE A SECOND TO READ: Dear Parents, This letter is to inform you of an attempted abduction of a student who attends Mesquite Junior High School. The attempted abduction occurred at Sahara Palms Apartments located at 2300 W. San Angelo Street in Gilbert this morning before school started. The student was waiting for the bus to arrive when a male, wearing dark clothes and a ski mask, grabbed the student by the arm and attempted to remove the student from the area. The student fought back and the male then fled the scene. The Gilbert Police Department was immediately notified and searched the vicinity but could not locate the male. The Gilbert Police Department is currently investigating the situation and will increase police presence in the Sahara Palms Apartments area. Again, the purpose of this notification is to keep you informed of the situation and to assure you that Gilbert Public Schools is committed to the safety of our students and community. We encourage parents to have a conversation with their children and remind them to be observant of their surroundings.
