ATTN: All Media Based on Tysons post below I decided to give Mike Draper a call, Mike and Tara are the ones handling ALL the media stuff for RARA and they have been involved with the Reno Air Races since 2001, both of them worked for R&R Partners who have been the long time PR company for RARA before Mike started his own company and have just recently been hired on to handle media - so they do know the air races and they are long time supporters, even having worked for nothing during the tough times over the last couple of years. Anyway I read to Mike the post by Tyson and he said that the interpretation of that is incorrect - in fact they encourage members of the media to sell their words/images to everyone they can as the know the more exposure that RARA and the event gets is good for everyone. Mike also explained that the text in there has actually been there for many many years but just buried in amongst other stuff so when the media app was reformatted this text was still in there just more prominent. Nothing has been changed. I discussed with Mike the way it could be interpreted and he said they will address the wording and amend it so its not ambiguous. Also when it comes to social media, which falls under the other catergory on the media creds app they are VERY MUCH supporters of it and encourage anyone with a substantial following on social media including Twitter, Facebook etc so apply. They will however evaluate every applicant individually and look at your Facebook page, website, forum, blog etc and see if it stacks up, if its one with 500 followers then prob not much point in applying. Mike agreed that social media is a big player in getting the word out going forward and they embrace it wholeheartedly. So bottom line they are not stopping anyone from selling their images to other than the publication or entity they are accredited to, in fact they encourage it. Mike said Yes they will be issuing less than the 1400 credentials from last year and thats both because of access reasons for those who are there as legitimate credentialed media who miss out on getting to pylons etc and also because of the costs involved.
