ATTN BC TRANSIT RIDERS!!! - YOUR HELP NEEDED TOMORROW Ogden Point Cruise Shuttle June 3, 2013 Dear Brothers and Sisters: The Union has made every effort to work with the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority to come to a resolve to the contracting out of the six BC Transit buses. We were first officially notified on March 28, 2013, about BC Transit’s decision to contract out these Transit buses and have subsequently had several meetings and discussions with the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority over their decision to award a contract to BC Transit to provide buses. Today for the first time, the Victoria Harbour Authority put in service the BC Transit leased buses. Since this situation arose, CAW Local 333 has documented a significant number of Greater Victoria bus routes being cancelled due to a shortage of buses - while the six BC Transit buses sit idle at Ogden Point. We have made our riders and the public aware of this reduction in service but BC Transit has ignored its duty and refuses to cancel the contract and return these buses to public service. Therefore, on Thursday, June 6, 2013, CAW Local 333 will hold a rally at 8:30 AM and 5:30PM outside Greater Victoria Harbour Authority at 189 Dallas Road, where scheduled cruise ship (RHAPSODY OF THE SEAS) will dock at 9:00AM and (CELEBRITY SOLSTICE ) AT 6:00PM. We encourage and support the public in joining CAW Local 333 members in showing their concern for BC Transit contracting out transit buses that are needed within the Greater Victoria Transit system. We remain hopeful that our protest and public pressure will help to reign in the disrespectful and counter-productive attitude that BC Transit has shown towards the Victoria transit riders and its workers. We will continue with these protests for as long as the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority continues to use BC Transit vehicles and we will continue to inform the public of BC Transit’s misguided decision to contract out BC Transit buses that should be used to provide transit service to the taxpayers of Greater Victoria. CAW Local 333 would like to make it very clear to all our members and the public that this is a protest and not a “picket line” and that all members of any Union are clear to pass through the protest. The members of Wilsons Transportation (CAW Local 114) and International Long shore and Warehouse Union Local 508 are doing their jobs and should not be harassed in any way. In Solidarity,
