ATTN: REZONING REQUEST at Rt.100/SPRING CREEK RD. Time to weigh - TopicsExpress

ATTN: REZONING REQUEST at Rt.100/SPRING CREEK RD. Time to weigh in: How do you feel about this request? Can the Rt 100 corridor and this intersection handle more traffic? Would you like to see a strip center here? Do you think something that generates less traffic is more appropriate? Do you think it should stay zoned as it is? The property in question currently is used for tractor trailer parking. Its the one that contains an old white home and an empty parking lot. Used to also have a large barn but that was razed recently. The property is currently zoned for homes (semi rural) but the owner is requesting a change to commercial zoning. This would allow for uses such as strip centers. The planning commission by a 4-3 split vote does not support the rezoning to commercial. They indicated they may be more open to a less intense neighborhood commercial designation. They feel that designation would generate less traffic. At least one indicated they felt the parcel should remain zoned as it is. The Planning Commissions main concerns and reason why they voted against the change was increased traffic coupled with uncertainty as to the effect of future impacts of the Jaindl development on the intersection. If the board decides to move this forward they would vote tonight only on advertising the zoning change. At that point residents would have a chance to weigh in as well as neighboring municipalities and regional planners.
