AUDITIONS FOR BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE ELATE’S next production, “Bell, Book and Candle,” is a romantic comedy that served as an inspiration to the TV series “Bewitched.” It will be set in the early 50’s. CHARACTERS: GILLIAN HOLROYD – F., mid 20’s to mid 30’s - A cute NYC witch c. 1950. “Small, alert, direct, very attractive.” Bored with her fellow witches and warlocks and infatuated with her upstairs neighbor. Casts a magic spell on him when she learns he’s engaged to a college rival. Must be comfortable with kissing on stage. This is a big part and commitment – on stage nearly the entire time. SHEP HENDERSON – M., mid 20’s to mid-30’s - Straight arrow upstairs neighbor to Gillian, “masculine and attractive,” engaged to Gillian’s college rival. Falls madly and inexplicably in love with Gillian. A publisher, he also wants rights to a new book on NYC magic. Second lead. Must be comfortable with kissing on stage. MISS HOLROYD – F., late 40’s to 60’s – Gillian’s eccentric witch aunt. Casts spells for fun and vengeance. “Vague, fluttery, and eccentric.” NICKY – M., early 20’s – Gillian’s younger warlock brother. Playboy. “Engaging, impish, and somewhat impertinent.” Smart aleck. REDLICH – M, 40’s –early 60’s – Author and self professed expert on witchcraft. “Shambling, messy, and slightly drunk.” Thinks he knows more than he actually does.
