AWAKHENs primary focus is TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return). TNR is a humane alternative to having community cats trapped and taken to the shelters. Studies have shown that TNR saves lives, as well as, taxpayer dollars. The cost of doing TNR is significantly less than the cost to impound a feral cat, house it for the required time, euthanize and dispose of the remains. So it is a win-win for everybody! Did you know that if one male cat and one female cat had a litter of 6 kittens twice a year, that after 8 years, it is possible for over 80,000 kittens to have been born? In order for AWAKHEN to! continue providing TNR services to our community at no charge, financial support is necessary. In addition to spaying and neutering cats, AWAKHEN also provides medical assistance to injured cats in the community. When a friendly cat or litter of kittens is found, they are fostered until a permanent home can be found.
