AXIS Opening Reception Saturday, September 6, at 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Brentwood Arts Exchange 3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood, Maryland 20722 Axis is an exhibition of visual and literary arts created by 13 artists linked into an alliance by having been fellows at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. The title of the show, Axis suggests a center or core that is capable of connecting, changing, and moving things, people and ideas to create a multitude of possibilities and alliances; it is a crucial transformative concept at this point in history. The artists in the exhibition live across the United States and come from diverse backgrounds to comment on the meaning of axis through means ranging from formal explorations to philosophical, social, and political interpretations. Their media includes contemporary and interdisciplinary practices in drawing, painting and sculpture, video, sound, poetry, and installation.
