#A_Post_Suswam_Benue The Suswam economy of hunger and poverty is gradually coming to an end. It will, precisely on May 29th, 2015. What is the concern of an average Benue (wo)man is not what Suswan will do because he has done all he could. Our concern now is a Benue economy of prosperity after Suswam. This brings us to the issue of Public Policy, aptly defined as a government decision to do something or to do nothing at all (Anene, 2014). The fact that Benue state can not pay salary for over 5 Month including that of primary school teachers for over a year is premium sign that the govt is bankcrupt. And why we are where we are now is because the government decided to do nothing to improve IGR. All the companies contracted to generate revenue have only succeeded in one thing: production of emergency millionaires - Restaurateurs and Hoteliers and Filling Station operators plus those retailing in Beverages and Spirits. The interim measure is to first put in place a frugal, and financially sensitive governor, who will not engage in the waste of public resources for birth days and carnivals at the expense of the people. Another important issue is that of Security Vote. The unconstitutional maintenance of a slush fund in the name security is an abberation of the essence of the police, the military and paramilitary. The unmentionable and unaccountable amount of money must be abolished as is the case with Okorochas Imo. Investment into Agriculture, its mechanisation and Agri-Business to generate employment, food for export and IGR. A post Suswam economy must necessarily depend on less borrowing, and development of critical infrastructure that can make Benue the true Food Basket of the Nation. Finally, I appeal to Suswan to retrieve the N50million donated to Jonathan re-election campaign. It is unconstitutional and betrays good conscience. Thanks.
