Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday, alleged that workers from his political outfit were being ill-treated by the Delhi Police and one of them was ‘offered urine’ when he asked for water. Sanjay Baniwal, joint commissioner of police (southeast range) vehemently denied the allegation(s) when contacted for a comment. “Volunteers produced before magistrate. Inhuman torture. I am ashamed of Delhi Police. I am helpless that I am paying for their salaries,” Kejriwal tweeted on social networking website Twitter. “Ramsewak Gupta. His leg broken. Plaster on his leg. Crying in pain since last night. No painkiller given. Akhilesh. Hand fractured. Lathis on legs. Hit with shoes on head... ...Akhilesh - When asked for water, policeman opened his pants and offered urine,” he wrote in quick succession. The alleged drama unfolded outside northeast Delhi’s Gokulpuri police station on Wednesday where AAP members gathered to protest the gang rape of a woman. The 20-year-old victim, who had come to Delhi from Bihar with her husband to look for a job, was confined to a house in Joharipur near Gokulpuri, before being allegedly gang-raped by two men who had promised the couple shelter. On the basis of her complaint, a case of gang rape and illegal confinement was registered. The accused duo, later identified as Digamber and Ravi, were arrested. The police claimed the AAP members had arrived at the police station and engaged in rioting, forcing the latter to resort to a mild lathi-charge. Eleven men and five women had been arrested in connection with the protests. “They were subjected to a medical examination before being produced in court. They were neither locked up inside the police station nor were they subjected to any kind of abuse,” joint CP Baniwal added.
