About 120 athletes from 15 federation countries will take part in the Welland events, though the games themselves will draw 10,000 athletes and coaches from 41 countries, making it “the largest multisport games ever held in Canada,” said Janice Thomson, the Niagara representative on the Toronto 2015 board of directors. She said around 1,000 volunteers are needed in Welland and the rowing venue in St. Catharines. More than 20,000 volunteers are needed to help run all of the events. “Its smaller than the world championships we just hosted, but its significant in the way that its set up and run,” Fischer said in comparing the Pan Am canoe/kayak events to the 2013 Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint World Championships held last summer. “You have an influx of media and spectators so the expectation is that much higher.” To learn more about the event this past weekend, please check out this article in the Welland Tribune:
