About 1944 when it became evident that there were too many people - TopicsExpress

About 1944 when it became evident that there were too many people trying to make a living off the family farm, my Dad and Mom moved to Bemis and moved in with relatives to start a new life. First public job ether of them had ever had. Fortunately for them there were plenty of friends and relatives to babysit me. We didnt live there long, but likes so many other young families that got a start or found permanent employment we owe the Bemis Mill a debt of gratitude and much respect. Many years later as I started South Side High School and was back into the Bemis community or as I hung out in Bemis on a Saturday night I always felt a little like I belonged. Even though I was not touched nearly so much by The old mill as you that were raised there I still believe it would be such a loss to our community as a whole to let it go. Certainly, the old mill and its owners should be respected, it is after all private property, but the powers of eminent domain have certainly been called into play for much less important places than this. Please save (lets) save the old mill.
