About 600 Kansas City Public Schools sixth graders are headed to college this morning! The students have been participating in our inaugural Kids2College program since February. Theyve learned about the post-secondary education system, were taught how to gain admittance to and pay for college, explored careers, charted a path from college to a potential career, and participated in career day presentations. Today, they are visiting UMKC and MCC- Penn Valley to tie all these lessons together and see first hand what college life is like. Kids2College is a free, national program that exposes middle-level students to the value and accessibility of a higher education. The curriculum is built around the insight that students are much more likely to attend college if they are taught early on the link between careers, future earnings and higher education.
