About #Whynotme #Bestmed #Medical #Scheme has partnered with #J9 #Foundation (Joost van der Westhuizen) to raise awareness and educate communities about Motor Neuron Disease (#MND). #ALS #LouGehrig #Disease Bestmed Medical Scheme understands the importance of funding research, finding cures and saving lives. This is why Bestmed has decided to expand their reach by joining hands with the J9 Foundation to contribute to the fundraising needed to assist in research for MND, and ultimately, to help build the first research centre for MND in Africa. Lack of funding remains the main reason for the lack of knowledge regarding MND – this is why the #Whynotme campaign has a call to action for people to donate R30 towards funding research for MDN in Africa. The legendary Springbok-rugby player, Joost van der Westhuizen, was diagnosed with this debilitating disease in 2011. He has since given his life to improving the quality of life for other people living with MND in South Africa. Bestmed Medical Scheme and the J9 Foundation are bringing this public service announcement to educate the general public, create awareness and raise funds for MND research. The funds raised for the J9 Foundation will go to beneficiaries on the Quality of Life programme and towards research. Ultimately the goal is to raise a large amount of money to assist in the building of a South African research centre for MND.
