About a year ago, Lizzy Duffy and I promised each other that we would work our hardest to work within UNCW ECO to get a green fee passed at UNCW. On Friday, we were getting ready for a party celebrating getting the fee passed through the tuition and fees committee (a step ECO had fought hard for but hadnt reached in the 7 year TGIF campaign) when we found out the fee has now been passed through the Board of Trustees. Still a little more bureaucracy the proposal has to go through, but the deal is pretty much sealed. Our work finished a job started when I was a sophomore in high school. UNCW will join around 110 other schools in the US to implement a green fee for sustainability. Im immensely proud to be president of the group that headed this campaign, the brother of the girl who coordinated it, and the friend of so many other people who helped with this. Next step... divestment across the UNC system?!?!?! I wouldnt bet against us.
