About a year ago, when the 2014 STOCKTONIAN OF THE YEAR winner was announced, I questioned why it has to always be someone with a Name! You know what I mean... Not that community business leaders arent giving of their time and deserving of the award, but it always seemed to be someone well known in the business community! I remember speaking with my good friend TIM ULMER, and telling him that I thought he deserved it much more than some of the past winners! I even posted about it here on Facebook. Not only is TIM (UlmerPhoto Tim) one of my best friends and a fellow SOUL VIKING (Edison High School graduate), but hes one of the most giving, generous and kind people I know! Hes not rich, so he cant donate thousands of dollars to local charities like some. But TIM gives something much more valuable if you ask me... he gives his time! His heart is huge, and his thoughts are always in the right place! In my mind, he gives MILLIONS in VALUE! Because of the respect he has quietly gained among local leaders, he can often get additional support for worthy causes. If TIM is behind it, you can bet its worth supporting! He runs a small business (by himself)...the last camera shop in the area (shop local and support the small guy), and often will have his Dad come in and cover the shop so he can voluntarily go take photos for local organizations! Yes, sometimes he is giving his time, his incredible photography skills of capturing just the right moment, and then coming out of his pocket to keep his business running and even provide some photos at cost or even free of charge! I can honestly say, I dont think Ive ever met a more giving, gracious and humble guy in my life! Well, yesterday...the community recognized what I have for as long as Ive known TIM! I dont know if my post last year stimulated the idea or not, but Im sure glad someone figured out its often the people who quietly do the work in the background that can have the most profound effect! CONGRATULATIONS to my good friend TIM ULMER for being named the 2015 STOCKTONIAN OF THE YEAR!!! And, better yet...it was a UNANIMOUS VOTE by the committee! TIM, Im proud to call you my friend...and my brother! YOU are an invaluable asset to this community, and Im thrilled you have finally been recognized for all you do!
