About eighty five years ago the Seppeltsfield road palm trees were planted, making it one of South Australias most beautiful roads also known as the avenue of hope. Unfortunately because our weather condition dont allow the palm dates to develop properly no one has been able to use their fruit. Finding this frustrating and seeing the trees full of fruit I set out on a mission to be able to produce something for the Barossa from its famous trees. I used a pickling technic that the English use on their walnuts, when the weather is to cold it prevents the walnut shells from forming properly. Being a similar problem with our dates not forming properly this technic has worked incredibly well. So with great excitement I present to you Seppeltsfield road pickled palm dates - they taste amazing, and are great with steak they are like full flavoured crunchy capers they are delicious! We will be showcasing them at the January 31st seppeltsfield unearthed chefs table, come and experience something never done before uniquely Barossan.
