About this page: My grandfather is in urgent need of a transfusion. He requires such a rare, specific blood that has only been seen in approx. 1 in 23,000 people within the Filipino/Pacific Islander population. Due to these odds and the current condition hes in, my family and I are expanding the search worldwide. For those fluent in hematology, here are the two super-rare conditions required: 1) Blood type of A Negative (Rh-) or O Negative 2) Born without Kidd (JK) antigen - a phenotype known as JK(a-b-) This is slightly more likely in Pacific Islanders, but has also been seen in Finnish, Japanese, and Thai populations. Interested parties would need to be typed and crossmatched by their nearest American Red Cross, who will ship the donation from anywhere in the country.
