Abu Dhabi (UAE) Recruitment fraud: UAE’s Adnoc warns against bogus offers, salaries The fake job contract offers attractive compensation and benefits and indicates detailed information such as employment number Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has warned candidates about the many offers and employment contracts that they might have received in their name but are not genuine and have advised the public to not get duped by such offers. The UAE’s largest oil marketing firm has now, through placing adverts in local dailies, warned prospective jobseekers, whether in the country or outside the UAE, to be way of such offers. If candidates receive such e-mails, they should not respond to them, Adnoc has advised. “It has been observed that a number of people from different nationalities in the UAE and abroad have been receiving through their e-mails counterfeited job offers and employment contacts that are sent by inexistent or scam entities offering fictitious jobs at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc),”the company said in a public statement. “To appear truly convincing, the fake employment contracts are signed by a so-called HR manager usually featuring the name and logo of Adnoc or one of its Group of Companies on their letter heads and pages,” it noted. “The fraudulent job offers, which are usually sent through e-mails inform the victim based on his academic qualification and experience, he has been offered a job opportunity with Adnoc,” the company warned in the public statement. “The bogus job contract offers attractive compensation and benefits and indicates detailed information such as an employment number and working hours of the prospective employee. The forged job offer asks the victim to remit cash money to cover the work permit, visa application and recruitment fee,” the statement adds. To clarify its recruitment process, Adnoc gives its detailed recruitment process. Knowing this may help candidates tell a genuine offer from a bogus one. Firstly, Adnoc and its Group of Companies will never recruit a job applicant without conducting a personal face-to-face interview. Secondly, The Human Resources Directorate of Adnoc will contact the job applicant directly through its staff and recruitment offers with the purpose of scheduling a date, time and place to meet for the interview. Thirdly, it is not a policy of Adnoc or its Group of Companies to ask the job applicant during any stage of recruitment to pay any amount of money as recruitment fees. Asking for payment from a jobseeker is, in fact, illegal according to UAE labour laws. Fourthly, employment contracts between Adnoc and new recruits are never signed before passing a medical check and an approval from the concerned government authorities.
