Accepting Applications for Admission & Assistantships: M.A. in Communication and Advocacy at James Madison University The M.A. program in Communication and Advocacy at James Madison University is accepting applications for admission and graduate assistantships for Fall 2014. Review of applications will begin starting February 15, 2014. The 36-credit hour M.A. program combines core coursework in communication theory and research, rhetoric and advocacy studies, and interpersonal and organizational communication with concentrated coursework in health and environmental communication. Students are given the option of a thesis or internship for their completion requirements. Our M.A. program offers small class sizes taught by faculty recognized for their outstanding teaching and scholarship. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with the competencies necessary to be skilled, effective and ethical advocates in the face of rapidly changing 21st century issues, contexts, publics, and communication technologies, while preparing students interested in advancing to doctoral programs with the theoretical and methodological training needed to be competitive in nationally recognized doctoral programs. Graduate assistants receive a stipend and tuition remission and participate in a comprehensive teaching training program that includes access to professional development training through James Madison Universitys Center for Faculty Innovation (bit.ly/I4ngaV) and Center for Instructional Technology (bit.ly/I4nij5). U.S. News & World Report has ranked James Madison University among the top five public, masters-level universities in the South in the annual poll on academic quality conducted for its guide, 2013 Best Colleges.
