Access Membership is from 7am -7pm every day and includes the use of the wi-fi and about 7000 square feet of common space including the gym, kitchen, two lounges, and coworking areas throughout. It also includes conditional access to the wood shop and metal shop. Projects include the development of a Photography Lab, re-introduction of the Film Night, as well as improving the weight room/gym and the basketball court, and reopening the gallery. That stuff is cool and all, but the real opportunity that the Access Membership represents is the open invitation to contribute to an ongoing discourse about interesting and vital issues with a group of some of the most diverse people you could hope to meet. Potential collaborators include The Philosophic Systems Institute, The Border Theater, Apt Movement, and Border Senses. Several members of the El Paso Permaculture Group are working with Glasbox toward creating a Sustainability “Hub” with ongoing experiments in various aspects of Permaculture and Aquaponics and a collection of reference materials for people who want to learn or teach about such topics. We have plans to start an urban, indoor Aquaponics Farm that is modular and scalable. Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu just started here a few weeks ago, and there are donation-based Yoga classes, as well as an African Drum and Dance circle. Beyond that, over a hundred creative individuals call this place home; Sculptors, Painters, Philosophers, Illustrators, Poets, Thespians, Metalsmiths, Ceramicists, Printmakers, Writers, Photographers, Dancers, Musicians, Designers, and a few characters who defy description. Collectively, these represent an incredible source of inspiration and potential. How much is that worth? Again, it is much more about access to the community than to the building.
