According to Honda, their new Beat, the S1000 and S1500 is scheduled for launch end of this year and early next. Insiders tells us that the S1000 is probably slated for Japan-only (what else is new ?) while the S1500 is supposed to be for the rest of the world. This should be a very exciting brand new model for us, Honda fans, as it will finally give us a proper MR Honda which, with the S1500, promises to be a lightweight sports car. Meanwhile however, and as usual, the competition continues its relentless march forward. Mazda is upping the ante with its new Mazda MX-5/Roadster/Miata (depending on when and where you first read/saw it) which is said to be coming in at a light 1050kg with a 2.0l Skyactiv engine option delivering 165hp. This is going to give it a nice 6.4 kg/hp power to weight ratio. Meanwhile, rumours of the new Honda S1500 which we have heard pegs it with a 1.5l engine that is said to bring back the glory days of Hondas 1hp/litre specific output. So potentially its going to be a 150hp lightweight open-top, maybe even very similar power-to-weight ratio as the new Mazda 5. Pitting these two against each other should be a most interesting exercise. Note however that in our experience, the U.K.s Auto Express magazine has not been very accurate with its rumours and insider info so take the 165hp figure for the Mazda MX-5 with a lot of salt. Nor do we know how accurate our own insider information is with regards to the S1500. autoexpress.co.uk/mazda/mx-5/65579/new-mazda-mx-5-2015-revealed-pics-specs-and-all-the-facts
