According to recent studies on this exponential growth, the number of Pentecostal/Charismatic believers went from 10,000 in the year 1800, to 981,000 by the year 1900; this being the produce of the holiness movement all over the earth. By 1970 this number had reached 67,873,000 and then increased seven fold by 2000 to 497,911,000. The Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary estimates the numbers who adhere to these beliefs in 2009 to be 605,306,000 and to be increasing by 36,000 believers per day. An analysis of the AD2000 Church demographic study states that there are more “great commission” Christians in this Pentecostal/Charismatic group than in any other denominational group. “Great commission Christians” refers to believers who have made the spread of the Gospel worldwide a priority in their lives. This is also indicated by the increase in global mission spending from 3 billion in 1970 to 25 billion in 2009. According to Christianity Today “more than half of all Christian adherents in the whole history of the church have been alive in the last one hundred years, and close to half of Christian believers who have ever lived are alive right now. We can truly see that this revival move of God is rapidly filling the earth with those who are prioritizing His kingdom and seeking His glory.
