According to research commissioned by Age Cymru, at the 2010 - TopicsExpress

According to research commissioned by Age Cymru, at the 2010 General Election three quarters of all constituencies in Wales (30 out of 40) were expected to see at least half of all voters who turned out on polling day being people aged 55 and over. The pension bill 1012/2013 was £110 billion. I should add this includes both central government and local authority spending, so; state pensions, sickness & disability, housing benefit, survivors pensions etc. There are 11 million of age 65 or over living in the uk, so an average of £192 a week. If Labour were to give an extra £7 billion to pensioners matching Camerons proposed tax cuts that would mean an extra £12.24 a week. Indeed he could double that to £14 billion, giving each pensioner an extra £99 a month. £14 billion is around 2.5% of revenues returned, so doable... I realise this would be a significant and perhaps brave move, but well all be pensioners some day. Strap on a pair Mr Miliband, everyone can be bought. :v Ive recalculated the stats in this post. After some research I think the figure of £143 billion presented by Christopher Chantrill (conservative) on ukpublicspending.co.uk looks dubious. Instead Ive gone with the Pensions Policy Institutes measure at £110 billion for 2012/2013.
