According to the Associated General Contractors of America, Arizona lost a staggering 3,100 construction jobs in August. Although this may be a reflection of the enduring effect of the real estate crash, The Republic reports it is also the result of contractors using “off the books, cash workers” instead of hiring new employees or using licensed subcontractors. These “misclassified” workers (in the politically correct description of the practice) result in sub standard work and put honest, quality contractors out of business.
