University Of Pecs Medical School The historic city of Pecs is proud to house the countrys oldest University, which was founded in 1367 by King Louis the Great. The University of Pecs is a state University. The medical school is listed in the WHOs directory of Medical Schools and is accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Board. The International Program was started in 1984. Students from 39 countries are educated in the University. In the academic year 2010/11 165 general medicine, 54 dentistry and 28 pharmacy students were admitted to the medical school. Szent Istvan University Faculty of Veterinary Science - one of the oldest veterinary schools in the world. This European-standard faculty still operates on small scale and it enrolls only a limited number of students each year keeping a familiar atmosphere in the historical campus located in the middle of Budapest. In fact, the Chair of Animal Healing at the Faculty of Medicine was established in 1787 shortly after the foundation of the first veterinary school in the world (in Lyon in 1762). As an independent institution the school earned an international reputation in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1990s a Field Station and a Large Animals Clinic was built outside Budapest providing a bigger supply of horses and cattle for the students in the clinical years. University of Debrecen The history of higher education in Debrecen goes back to the 16th century. The city established the Calvinist College of Debrecen in 1538.
