Activism.....social activism to be precise is at the heart of the Christian mission. Unfortunately these days we can host big conferences but we cant run a soup kitchen. We can pay large honorariums for international speakers and musicians but we cant donate our old clothes to the man on the street. We have forgotten that we are here for a purpose. And part of that purpose entails putting aside that which is our own personal fulfillment in order to take care of our fellow man. This is at the heart of Christianity. This is at the core of our faith. Every church. No matter how small. Has a chance to play a role in social change. So perhaps before the next glass pulpit lets buy groceries for a widow. Before the next music system upgrade lets make a donation to the home for the disabled. Maybe the next fundraising event should be to buy school uniforms for poor children. What role are we playing in our society? Churches are full of people with abilities and competences to bring change. But we simply see them a flock to be hit with a rod and get in line. This is a disability of the church. The health of the church must not be judged by the size of its bank account. We must use the Word and the Word alone, If He said let us feed the hungry, let us clothe the naked and take care of the destitute, it means this is our mission. It is no less to any powerful sermon. It is on par with any other great church project if not more important. We aught to check our score card. It makes no sense to solve a great Mathematical problem when you were asked to write a simple answer on Geography. We must not get carried away and forget the importance of understanding what the Master has sent us to do.
