Actual question for other Cultural Studies / Social Science minded - TopicsExpress

Actual question for other Cultural Studies / Social Science minded folks. When I am writing about an idea that permeates the dominant culture I am surrounded by (and there for effects views within the counter cultures I am a part of as well) I usually describe this culture as Neo-western Postcolonial, I do this to indicate the effects of colonialism, manifest destiny and the like have had on, and continue to have on the spaces and mindsets of this culture . I am however rubbed the wrong way by my own word choice as of late. 1. I feel as though using postcolonial makes the assumption that we are somehow beyond or past colonialism (probably something about that being the definition of the prefix post) and I am less and less ok with that notion. 2. I am white. My experience of the dominant culture and the way that it has been effected by colonialism is very painted by this fact. I feel it is important for me as a white person to somehow indicate that the effects of colonialism on dominate culture translate different for my experience (and for the white folks who exist within the dominant culture of this area) than they do for POC folks. My question is this, is there a word that can be used to replace postcolonial that is able to portray these ideas to my audience or is this something I should add asterisks and disclaimers to? TL:DR- Writing is hard, how can I be thorough enough in my presentation of the ideas that I am not misinterpreted yet concise enough to not loose my audience?
