Adam and I had a discussion about this yesterday ... how the word feminism is perceived and why. I have never identified myself as a feminist until I had two daughters. Daughters that I want to be able to chase their dreams without fear of being thought of as less-than or inferior to their male counterparts. Daughters who I want to see receive equal pay for equal work. Pigtail Pals Ballcap Buddies has a saying... once you see it, you cant un-see it. I now see and feel things in a different way, through the lens of the society my girls are inheriting... and I cant un-see it or un-feel it. Our culture and our own minds too easily accept things as funny or harmless that continue to perpetuate the subjugation and belittlement of women, their goals and dreams. For my daughters sakes (and yours) I would ask you to take a step back once in a while, consider our norm, and think about it. Just because thats the way things are - doesnt make it right, or they way things have to be.
