Adidas - History Adidas are arguably the top competitor when it comes to the football boot market. But such genius and craftsmanship has not just come from nowhere. . . Cobler Adolf Dassler (3rd November 1900-September 6th 1978), also known as Adi Dassler is the creator of Adidas shoes a German sportswear company. He started making shoes in his mother’s washrooms after his return from World War 1. He became known for his expertly crafted athletic footwear. Roping his family in to help make 50 pairs of athletic shoes a day he made his first pair of football boots in 1925 with nailed leather studs, and it wasn’t until 1950 after expanding the business to make one thousand pairs of shoes a day to a perfect standard, that Adidas made Samba the first football boots with multi studded rubber soles for their players meaning more grip for them when they were playing. However there was more victory to come for Adolf Dassler as in 1954 when the World Cup Final took place in Switzerland. Imagine the scene as clouds start to gather and rain starts to pour down from the skies. Adolf stepped in literally as he pimped out the German football team’s boots with his latest invention that he had spent much time on creating: Screw in studs. Within one hour the team were raring to go and as Hungary’s football team trudged through the thick mud and Germany scored the winning goal and so Germany took home the World Cup, all thanks to Adidas footwear. Many more revolutions and evolutions took place with the sports footwear over the year from the creation of the polyamide sole in the football boots to the premier of the Copa Mundial, released in 1979 but specifically made for the 1982 World Cup. Worn at the 1982 World Cup, the shoes were a roaring success and went on to be the best selling football boot for decades. Adi Dasslers final creation before he died in 1978 was the first football boot which was made with a sole that was made from two different materials with two different densities, changing football player’s games ultimately. Since Adi Dassler’s death the company have strived to uphold his craftsmanship and dedication to excellence, propelling themselves into the top sectors of the football boot market for both those who play professionally and those who play for lower divisions. Even today Adidas create football boots which are worn by famous and professional players thanks to their determination to be at the heart of every football player, learning what makes them tick as they successfully win a game. Football can be a brutal game at the best of times meaning that a football player needs to be able to rely on their football boot to be strong and durable; two characteristics that Adidas have made sure are a priority to them. The company have come a long way from being made in a washroom in Germany and is now well known to the football community for their advances in football boot technology as well as their other departments such as shirts, socks, gloves and many more.
