Adios, 2014!!! Its been a year of heartache, adventure, inspiration and change.. This last day of the year began with shafts of sunlight streaming in through gaps and pinholes in the tin roof, with radiant, sunny floral silhouettes glimmering on the wall from the morning suns passing through the houses decorative, open air, tropical concrete blocks. Cafe con leche, bananos, and breakfast with fresh tortillas sounded so good! And so I stretched, opened the door to the streets of Managua, and made my way through the barrio. Down one passageway, across to another, to buy three eggs, a sprig of culantro, two tomatoes, an onion, a bunch of bananos, a cold bag of milk, cinnamon bark, local coffee beans, and a handful of naranjas from a little window-in-a-wall-upon-the-sidewalk storefront. Then, next door, to a house for a hot, tasty bag of smokey beans, traditional Nicaraguan frijoles cosidos, for twenty Cordobas. Then, back down the passageway, and a left turn to the tortilla house, for piping hot tortillas made from corn freshly ground this morning, and tiny balls of fresh, soft, salty farmers cheese. Palms and poinsettia trees swaying in the breeze all the while, familiar faces saying good morning.. :) Back at the house, we turned on the music, flicked on the gas valve, and started cooking. Eggs and veggies with beans, cheese, tortillas and fruits.. Followed by dancing in the morning light :) settling in for an afternoon of drawing and writing, and hoping for lots more days like this in the new year! 💕💕💕☺️😚😄 heres to a beautiful last day of 2014, and to a safe and super fun night of ringing in the New Year tonight!!!
