Adorable student Jackson - just turned 5 - always reaching for a wider musical experience. (I generally encourage younger kids to learn the rhythm and melody first, then transfer that to the piano piece). Jackson can already play the first few bars and wanted to express himself on Native American flute and baby Djembe drums. En passant, he said to me So. Youre from the black and white time. (All sorts of scenarios ran before my eyes, me living in America!) Then I realized he meant black and white movies, black and white television, b & w photos etc. I said Yes, I am Jackson. But my childhood was still in color. He paused for thought Well, not very good color in that candlelight. I replied No, Jackson, we had electricity when I was young. Oh, but you are still very old like 60 or something. I said Yes, but I feel very young inside - some things are black and white and some things are in vibrant color. Its all about perspective….which well talk about next week. !!! To still have a foot in the door of the entertainment capital of the world and Jackson as a student, I consider myself very blessed!
