Advent, Wednesday, Week Three: Mt. 1:1-17. One of the interesting explorations I shared with my father was our trip to the genealogy section of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Amazingly, this public institution has one of the finest sources for genealogy in the US! We were able to find copies of the ships manifest revealing my paternal grandparents. There is a fascination about discovering traces of our ancestors. Ancestry is a huge attraction on the internet. Today, we have from Matthew the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Divided by biblical perfect numbers, the incomplete list serves the purpose of rooting Jesus in the line of David. The four women mentioned are not Jewish. God intends to work salvation in any manner He chooses. We all play a part as brothers and sisters of Jesus however unlikely family members we may be at times.
