Adventure Time’s Marceline and Princess Bubblegum once dated, show’s creator said Voice actress Olivia Olson has revealed that Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward told her that her character Marceline the vampire used to date Princess Bubblegum in her back story, but that plot twist will not be appearing on the show 21 AUGUST 2014 | BY ANDREW POTTS Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward has reportedly revealed that his characters Marceline and Princess Bubblegum once dated, explaining their rivalry on the show, but that history will not be revealed to viewers of the cartoon. Voice actress Olivia Olson, who voices Marceline the vampire told an audience at a recent book signing event that Ward had asked her ‘You know they dated, right?’ during a discussion of her characters motivations ahead of recording a scene between her character and Princess Bubble Gum. However Olson said she was not sure Ward wanted fans to know about the characters’ romantic back story. ‘He’ll kill me for saying this,’ she said. However fans at the signing cheered the news. Olson said she had told Ward she had had her suspicions about it. ‘That’s what I figured from all the creepy fan art,’ she said, referring to depictions as the characters as a couple that have been popular with users of the website DeviantArt. Olson then said she asked Ward if he was going to explore that back story in an Adventure Time book or the show but Ward said there had been concerns that sort of material would have seen it banned in some countries. ‘I don’t know about the book, but in some countries where the show airs, it’s sort of illegal,’ Olson quoted Ward as saying.Olson was captured making the revelation by YouTube user Justin Hawn who declared the news ‘Bubbline Confirmed!’ His clip has now been watched by almost 120,000 people.
