Firefighters are working in steep country on the bushfire 15 KM WNW MATLOCK . The fire has burnt 500 hectares and is under control. The fire is still burning within containment lines and crews will be working today and overnight to consolidate these. Smoke will increase later today as backburning operations continue. This work may generate a significant level of smoke which will be visible to surrounding communities. Residents may also smell smoke. There is currently no threat to communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions. Motorists travelling in the area are urged to take additional care due to the presence of emergency vehicles, machinery and smoke. The Big River Road is closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles from Warburton-Woods Point Road in the South to the Eildon-Jamieson Road in the North. Stay up to date with road closures at vicroads.vic.gov.au. The next update is expected by 20/01/14 7:30 PM or as the situation changes.
