Affiliated to Jkbose J&K Private Schools United Front (JKPSUF) has condemned the Board of School education for marring the career of thousands of students by setting up a bizarre, tough and out of syllabus maths question paper for 12th class examinations. The Front called it a conspiracy to lower the standards of Kashmiri students, thus making them ineligible for various competitive examinations. JKPSUF General Secretary G N Var said that it is an open secret that JEE (Joint Entrance Examinations) gives 40 percent weightage to board marks, so when the marks are low, the chances for Kashmiri students to qualify decrease proportionately.” Var said that Kashmiri students are one of the most intelligent and they were starting to crack the most competitive examinations in India. “This has unnerved some quarters and they have devised a way to lower their grades in the higher secondary. They did it by providing M.A. standard question paper to these kids,” said Var. “This is going to spell a disaster for this batch as most of them won’t be able to pursue their lifelong dreams particularly via competitive examinations.” The Front said that if the current Maths paper is not termed null and void, the students would end up in low grade colleges, if ever they qualify. “Prestigious colleges go to toppers and a student getting 35 % marks in maths can never dream of that,” said Var. The Front said that the system of examination is already flawed and the latest addition of Maths paper only deteriorated it. “Not only the chances of our students for IIT and IIE have decreased but we fear that our students won’t be able to grab a seat in our own National Institute of Engineering (NIT) which will be dominated by outside students,” said Var. “Our RBA category is already not recognised by their system and we don’t have ST, SC. We only had open merit, and it is where they have hit us.” The front said that on one hand students are made ineligible for prestigious institutes and on the other hand huge scholarship is given for low grade colleges. “This entire thing looks suspicious,” said Var. The Front demanded that the Math paper be terminated and a new examination be held in this paper. “There should be a complete investigation and the person guilty of setting such an unprofessional paper should be sacked.” The Front asked the government to take an immediate step in this regard as hundreds of students have gone into depression. “Some have stopped eating and God forbid some may harm themselves,” said Var. “In such a situation government should be entirely responsible for it.”
