African musicians gathered on November the 2nd to pay tribute to MAYA NANSI AMY GOLT-FOGGIS the daughter of Nsimba Foggis and Debbie Golt, who passed away on 21st of September 2013. Maya would have been 25 this coming Christmas. Nsimba Foggis is the Soukous Maestro and Best British award winning leader of Taxi Pata Pata. This gathering was organised by my good friend of Limpopo Club Wala Danga and OuterGlobe [Debbie Golt]. Wala and Debbie are people that I know who are dedicated to promoting African music and musicians. The event took place in a modern venue in Camden Town at The Forge 3-7 Delancy Street and I can tell you the venue is very impressive. I have not been active in the African music scene since 2000 I kind of lost interest in the music secondly there were few African live bands as many of you know most of musicians these days perform with backing tracks, but on this gathering restored my faith in African music in the capital. 99% of the bands and solo artist performed live and the most interesting thing was that female musicians were so impressive they came on stage armed with acoustic guitars and delivered top notch performances. Musicians were from Congo [DRC] Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, Guinie Bissau, Gambia, Egypt. But also there were top notch DJs from Main stream Radio stations. Since this is a tribute to our Beloved daughter MAYA NASI AMY GOLT-FOGGIS I will stop talking about bands and the music, R.I.P MAYA.
