After 17 Years....... Bhubaneswar : 26/July/2013 Finally after a long 17 years of absence in the Capital City, V K Saxena today has taken over the most crucial assignment of Principal Secretary of the Department of Home in Odisha Government. 1985 batch IAS, left Odisha in June, 1996 after his one and half year stint as Managing Director of the Odisha State Co-operative Bank (OSCB), after which he never came to Bhubaneswar. Mr.Saxena, one of the sharpest and intelligent bureaucrats, who earned a name in both Union Government and in the State Government for his smart handling of critical situation, has been assigned the responsibility just before the General Elections, which is likely to be announced early. With much confidence bestowed on Saxena by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Chief Secretary J K Mohapatra, Babudom Watchers feel that “It is the trust of both the top bosses, which matters in case of this posting of the seasoned bureaucrat”. However, top cops opine that his long stint in Ministry of Home Affairs and his wide ranging contacts in various Ministries in the Union Government have worked in his favor for this crucial posting. With Mr.Saxena at the helm, Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik, who is handling the portfolio of Home will be able to devote more time on developmental works and will have to bother little about this sensitive department, said a senior bureaucrat in the Government. Similarly after 15 years, another unassuming, sharp and quiet efficient bureaucrat, 1990 batch IAS Gudey Srinivas returned Odisha. Mr.Srinivas came back to the State Cadre after having important assignments in the Union Government and in neighboring State of Andhra Pradesh. So he was given a field posting for familiarization for few months and was returned back to his turf, where he will have to do the fire fighting for next few months. His rating as an able administrator and go getter is high and the postings in Union Ministry of Mines have given him the advantage of getting into the hottest seat of Commissioner-cum-Secretary Steel & Mines. With the Sword of Damocles of Justice M B Shah Commission hanging on the Odisha Government, posting of Mr.Srinivas is viewed as a strategically suitable posting by the Babudom Watchers. Mr.Srinivas, knows his subject well and has the right connections in the Union Government, which needs to be cultivated at this crucial juncture, feel they. In fact both the postings of top bureaucrats in Odisha Government is seen as the “Right Man on the Right Job”, which is not seen usually in the Government, pointed out a Principal Secretary.
