After Germany annexed Austria in 1938, Leo Bretholz fled Vienna to avoid arrest and eventually ended up in France. In 1942, while en route from Drancy to Auschwitz, he and a friend pried open the bars over a window on the railcar and jumped from the train. Leo joined the underground, forging identification documents and monitoring German troop movements. In this clip, he shares his memories of learning of the Allied invasion of Normandy while he was in Limoges, France.
