After a long day of waiting, doctors, residents, NPs, nurses, needles, blood, medicines, we finally have a plan in place. Alex will have another MRI at 7am to see exactly where the fluid is, how his ventricles are placed in his brain, and essentially used as a guide (GPS) to navigate where to put a Ventriculoperitoneal shunt. This surgery will take place at 8am by Dr. Mittler, Co-Chief Neurosurgeon of Cohen Childrens Medical Center (approved by Dr. Rekate). The shunt will allow for a valve to regulate the fluid pressure around Alexs brain and drain excess fluid into his abdominal area to be reabsorbed.
