After a week long campaign it is with great sadness I share with you that I did not get elected as your 2014 NUS Delegate. Instead, with Minesh Parekh s incredible campaign strategy and sense of direction we managed to gain 4/8 candidates that we all collectively campaigned alongside. Congratulations to Christy Mc Morrow Khalid Omari Malaka Mohammed Rosie Carter-Rich . Now, dominate the NUS!!!!! Option A Voting Option A in the Big Referendum would have guaranteed a full-time BME Officer at our so-called no.1 union. This again, with great sadness, was not successful and the status quo remains. As the results was announced, the whole room was rendered speechless. It was a very hard pill to swallow knowing that the amazing people who put so much heart and soul into this campaign had lost. HOWEVER, Id like to thank Nazmin Jahan Abdullah Geelah Sharmin Jahan for encouraging me to take part in this campaign. I know you guys have worked so hard in raising awareness and gaining support for this. Its been really insightful and inspiring learning about the origins of the BME Committee and how the politics within our union actually works. Your work ethic has been incredible to witness. Your passion and need for a BME officer really hammered home how much I, as a BME student, need representation at our union and beyond. I know that we have so much work left to do and this is only the start of a very very very long fight. Its also worth mentioning that we have some pretty incredible union officers: Yael, Miriam, Malaka, Tom and Jack! They too have worked tirelessly to help BME students gain the representative we asked for. There is still a very long road to travel and this is only the start. Well get there, somehow.
