After four separate shootings in Norfolk in a span of a few hours - TopicsExpress

After four separate shootings in Norfolk in a span of a few hours this weekend, Police Chief Michael Goldsmith issued this statement Saturday: This morning several citizens were senselessly injured by gunfire. These citizens, whether at a party or minding their own business, were shot by people who seem to think a gun is the only way to resolve an issue. Im thankful no one was killed. I have more than 740 police officers working hard every day to keep 245,000 people safe. We need the assistance of our citizens to combat the gun violence that is affecting our streets and harming our youth. Most importantly, our youth need to resolve their disputes differently than resorting to violence. This has no place in our society and will not be tolerated. It can be a family member, teacher or pastor to help instill in our youth that shooting someone to resolve their differences is immoral and wrong. We are asking the public to stand up against these senseless acts and help our children thrive in an environment where violence is not an option and guns are no longer the answer. The Norfolk Police Department is doing its part. I am putting more resources in the neighborhoods affected by these senseless acts of violence. These resources will include uniformed patrol, vice and narcotics and gang investigators, as well as members of our Homeland Security Division. We will work hard to bring these perpetrators to justice and we appeal to our citizens for support.
