After having visited the Northern Spain with cozy little towns that dated back many centuries, pristine valleys and mountains; after having experienced top-notch services at the hotels and restaurants, where the staff anticipated your every move, we arrived in Madrid... grand and handsome city, but with crowds of people, tourists and not; and we found ourselves feeling annoyed by the hordes of the masses, trying to squeeze through, zigzagging on the sidewalk to our destination, a 5-star hotel Palacio del Retiro, where a 2-room junior suite had clogged sink and bathtub and where the staff watched you patiently, trying to maneuver you way out of the tiny elevator with luggage without even a slight attempt to render any assistance. Luckily, this was just for one night. We already had explored the art scene of the city during out previous trip, so this time it was merely a transit zone, and I am glad, that all it was.
