After hearing Jaime Lerner speak at Town Hall Seattle last night - TopicsExpress

After hearing Jaime Lerner speak at Town Hall Seattle last night and reading this article on Crosscut this morning, I cant help but think how much farther the $4.25 BILLION (and rising with every delay) estimated cost of the tunnel, would go if we were to create a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) System here in Seattle. Former Mayor Michael McGinn was on board with the alternative idea, but was not able to overcome the business interests. Just think of the profits on a project of this size with constant unexpected delays and change orders. Im all for creating jobs, but lets put it towards something that will actually improve the traffic nightmare that Seattle is now AND reduce our carbon footprint. This tunnel creates no new capacity, it just replaces an outdated arterial with a business class tunnel. (People will avoid it, like weve seen with 520, when you toll one arterial and not the other) What if we spent $4.25 BILLION on a quality public transportation system, so that people could actually get around this City in a reasonable amount of time? I really wish the current leadership of this City, Mayor Ed Murray and the Seattle City Council would have the courage to stop this project while the majority of the funds could still be redirected into a worthwhile project.
