After his book, In the Spirit of Crazy Horse, was banned by the government during a lawsuit with the feds, Peter Matthiessen became sort of a mythical figure to me. I was in a bookstore the day it was being pulled from the shelves, but in the spirit of the First Amendment, the book store put them out for quick sale first. So I grabbed one. Matthiessen had an incredibly prodigious output of literature, fiction and non-fiction.
