After my recent viewing of the latest Apes film, Im now revisiting the TV series, which I saw originally back in the 70s (I dont recall what day and time it aired) and again in the 90s when C4 reran it on Sundays at noon. It was, like a great many other shows, a Western in different clothing; some might say its THE FUGITIVE on the planet of the apes, but I think that show was essentially a modern day Western, though Im not sure if any Western series prior to it centered around an outlaw. Even though Roddy McDowall was top-billed, his human friends seem to take centre stage...the pair were probably cast because they looked a little like Starsky and Hutch.
