After several years of research I finally found the final resting place of my 3rd Cousin 3X Removed. Lieutenant Jesse Hawkins(1831-1864) of the 16th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry, Co. F. Jesse was the oldest Son of Harrington Hawkins(1802-1879) and Catherine Katie Ross(1805-1843). He enlisted in the 16th SC Infantry The Greenville Regiment in December 1861. He quickly rose to the rank of 3rd Lieutenant by the Summer of 1864. On the 30th of November 1864 General John Bell Hood assaulted the Union-held town of Franklin, Tn in force. The 16th, along with the 24th SC, were heavily engaged after a almost 2 mile forced marched across farm field south of Franklin. This was a very ill-fated battle for the Army of Tennesse and my ancestor lost his life there on those fields. He was charging the works commanding his Company F when he was stuck down. He died where he fell. Until now I knew nothing of his final resting place. It was a heart-wrenching search to avail. By accident I found him and today while I was searching for the Hawkins Cemetery in Taylors, SC I drove by the cemetery he buried in, Brushy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. I said to myself that would a cool cemetery to explore. Little did I know then Lt. Hawkins was at rest there. My next day off I going there to find him. As you see below he has no Confederate Marker or even a Headstone to say who he is to the world. Well that is going to change as I am going to get this fixed!
