After sitting in on Rory McIlroy post match interview I was inspired to compile list of great athletes/ coaches, who were also seemingly incredibly likable guys and women. Here is that list, incomplete and full of oversights, I am sure. The person must be great in their sport, they must have displayed unusual respectfulness, and an exceptional likeability,and I must have interviewed them or been part of a collective interview with them. Need to see their demeanor first hand...No simple admiring from afar. (hence no Kevin Durant or Mariano Rivera or Drew Brees, all of whom I am sure would be on this list.) There are some that might surprise you, but I go by what I see and saw and my own observations... Here we go in no particular order: Rory McIlroy Arnold Palmer Jack Nicklaus Wayne Gretzky Peyton Manning Derek Jeter Mia Hamm Kerri Walsh Jeff Gordon Dale Earnhardt Jr. Tom Glavine Tom Izzo Kobe Bryant Pat Day Darrell Griffith Lou Dampier Dwayne Wade Tom Brady Tim Howard Billy Donovan Charles Barkley There are some others that are incredibly likable people, but Im not sure are all time greats, or at least not yet (Peyton Siva, JJ Watt, etc)...this list is record setters and hall of Famers of one sort or another. And some have made mistakes in their lives, or are not always likable in their broadcast comments (Barkley). But I have seen a generosity of spirit in all these men and women and thats why they make the list. Hey it sounds like a book, doesnt it John Saunders???
