After watching my old street on the news this evening, and listening to an old neighbor it made me so sad to hear how the state buyout program is leaving so many wondering what they should do. So many of you have spent the past year rebuilding, you have spent a lot of money, time and effort in bringing your homes back so at this point it must seem overwhelming to think about now, when your house is all new inside, to maybe take the buyout and walk away. I am thankful we were able to walk away a year ago and I know that the decision was hard for us to make even then, and we had not spent a whole year fixing our home, but I also know for us it was the best decision as a family we have ever made. If nothing more then having piece of mind that we no longer live in a flood zone. For each of you as you make a decision, remember so many will give advice but so few have been in our shoes and lived through this. I hope each of you makes the very best decision for you and your families. When we were trying to decide what to do it was a very emotional decision for our whole family but the 1 thing somebody said to me that helped was a house is just a house and remember you will take your memories with you. We did take our memories of 18.5 years with us and we started over in a new house and a new neighborhood. We are now making new memories here and as a family we could not be any happier with the decision we made. I hope each of you still living there can also make the right decision for you and your families and in the end be able to say that you also couldnt be any happier with your decision.
